Frequently asked questions
General & Technical
Q: Can you calibrate my magnets on-site? A: Technically, permanent magnets cannot be "calibrated" because their strength is a physical property that cannot be adjusted. However, we provide On-Site Performance Certification. We test your magnets against their original specifications and industry safety standards to certify they are fit for service.
Q: What is the difference between a Gauss Test and a Pull Test? A: A Gauss test measures the magnetic field intensity at a specific point using a meter. A Pull Test (or Breakaway Test) measures the actual mechanical force required to separate a magnet from a steel surface. For safety and audit compliance, a Pull Test is generally the required standard as it proves the magnet’s functional lifting or catching capacity.
Q: How often do my magnets need to be certified? A: Most industry standards, including ASME B30.20 for lifting and HACCP/SQF for food safety, require at least an annual inspection. However, if a magnet is used in high-heat environments or subjected to heavy mechanical shock, more frequent testing may be recommended.
Compliance & Standards
Q: Are your testing instruments calibrated? A: Yes. While magnets themselves aren't calibrated, the equipment we use to test them (Load Cells, Gauss Meters, and Scales) is NIST-traceable and calibrated annually to ensure 100% accuracy in your certification reports.
Q: Will your reports satisfy a Third-Party Audit (SQF, BRC, or OSHA)? A: Absolutely. Our reports are designed specifically to meet the rigorous requirements of third-party auditors. We provide the raw data, the pass/fail result, and the professional certification needed to close the loop on your compliance documentation.
Service & Logistics
Q: Do we have to send our magnets to you? A: While we can test smaller components at our facility, we specialize in on-site testing. This minimizes your downtime and allows us to inspect the magnets in their actual operating environment, which is often a requirement for a comprehensive safety audit.
Q: What happens if my magnet fails the test? A: If a magnet fails to meet the required safety factor (such as the 3:1 ratio for lifting magnets), we will clearly mark it as "Failed" and provide a detailed report. We can then consult with you on whether the unit can be repaired or if a replacement is necessary to maintain facility safety.
